Pathway to Cosmetology

Location: Dillingham

Course Description: The pathway to cosmetology involves understanding the field, building skills, and fostering relationships. Students learn the importance of sanitation and hygiene in the cosmetology field. Site visits to schools and salons provide valuable industry insights and dedicated hands-on practice with mannequins foster creativity. Additionally, support is offered for post-graduation endeavors, including assistance with applications and financial aid.

Iron Workers 

Location: Anchorage

Course Description: The Iron Workers course is a comprehensive program that provides students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in ironworking. This course covers a wide range of topics, including safety procedures, blueprint reading, welding techniques, and structural steel construction. Students will engage in hands-on training to develop proficiency in various ironworking tasks, preparing them for entry-level positions in the industry. By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in ironworking principles and practices, setting them on a path towards a successful career as an ironworker.

IBEW; Telecom & Wireman

Location: Anchorage

Course Description: IBEW Telecom & Wireman course is a comprehensive 40-hour program tailored for high school juniors and seniors interested in pursuing a career in the telecommunications and electrical industry. This course provides hands-on training and theoretical knowledge in telecom and wireman skills, preparing students for potential opportunities in the electrical field. Students will gain practical experience and insights into the industry, equipping them with the necessary skills to excel in a future apprenticeship or career in telecommunications and electrical work.

Pre-Req: Finish all 5 modules in the Interim Credentials Coursework

Aviation Ground School Course

Location: Anchorage

Course Description: This course provides comprehensive preparation for the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test and introduces students to foundational skills and knowledge in aviation. The curriculum covers essential topics, including flight planning, navigation, weather analysis, aerodynamics, and federal aviation regulations.  

Students will engage in practical learning activities, including time in an FAA-approved flight simulator to develop essential piloting skills in a controlled environment. The program incorporates hands-on experiences such as a discovery flight with a certified instructor, allowing students to gain firsthand experience in operating an aircraft.  

Career exploration is integrated through guided tours of local air taxi services, airport operations, and control tower facilities, offering insights into various professional roles in aviation. This course combines theoretical knowledge, practical application, and industry exposure to provide students with a comprehensive foundation for pursuing a private pilot certificate and exploring careers in aviation.

Amped up on Energy with ARE

Location: Anchorage

Course Description: Amped on Energy Camp is your chance to get hands-on, try new things, and see how energy powers Alaska.. up close! Spend a week building, experimenting, and solving real-world challenges alongside other students who like learning by doing. You’ll explore renewable and traditional energy systems, use STEM skills in fun, interactive ways, and meet people who work in energy careers across the state.

This isn’t a sit-and-listen camp. You’ll work in teams, tackle challenges, and build skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and confidence; skills that matter no matter what career you choose. If you’re curious about how things work, enjoy hands-on projects, or want to explore high-paying, in-demand careers in Alaska, this camp is for you!

Introduction to Power Tools (Women in the Trades)

Location: Anchorage

Course Description: This training for high school girls covers the basics of carpentry and trades math, including accurate use of a tape measure with hands on exercise cutting varies shapes out of drywall to fit around wood shape on a board. Proper use of hand and power tools. Students will construct a small table and ladder shelf using compound miter saw, pocket hole jig, drill, impact driver, and sanders. Other power tools will be covered throughout the class. This course is the first of a two-part sequence. Students who complete it will continue to Intensive Week 4: Residential Wood Framing.

Village Maintenance

Location: Anchorage

Course Description: Training covers basics of carpentry and trades math including accurate use of tape measure with hands on exercise cutting various shapes of drywall to fit around wood shapes on a board. Safe use of hand and power tools that are needed for metal stud framing. Layout of wall studs, door and window openings using metal studs framing techniques. Proper installation of drywall, mudding, taping and hole patching. Basic plumbing and electrical. Types of doors, parts of doors, door swings, types of door jambs, installing pre-hung doors, hands on installing a deadbolt and doorknob. Hands-on exercise on wood trim finishes. Introduction of cabinets, countertops flooring and exterior finishes.
